The New Jus Sanguinis Law Explained
In March 2025, Italy passed Decree-Law No. 36/2025, now converted into national law. It redefines who qualifies for Italian citizenship through ancestry (Jus Sanguinis):
Effective
March 2025
Citizenship now passes only two generations from an Italian-born ancestor.
Children born abroad qualify only if a parent lived in Italy for two consecutive years before their birth.
Additional documentation and in-country requirements may now apply.

Why This Matters Now
Many qualified individuals, especially those living outside the EU, are discovering that a once-straightforward path to citizenship is being quietly closed off.
These reforms have caused confusion, delayed petitions, and rejected applications. But under Italian law, you may still have time to qualify under the prior interpretation — if you act now.
Citizenship is more than paperwork. It’s belonging, legacy, and a legal right rooted in bloodline. Don’t let a legislative technicality erase that.
