A New Investigations Practice
Leading the new practice is Matt Newkirk, PortaleItaly’s Director of Investigations and the qualifying member under the firm’s New York State agency license. Newkirk oversees the firm’s investigative casework, focusing on the deeper investigations that conventional genealogy can’t reach — helping families trace their distant roots when the names, dates, and records connecting them to Italy have been lost to time. His team takes on the cases the industry has historically turned away: clients who know they descend from Italy but cannot yet name the ancestor who proves it.
The licensure complements PortaleItaly’s existing genealogy practice. Investigative research bridges the modern gap — identifying the unknown grandparent or great-grandparent — after which the firm’s Italian-records team documents the line back through comune and parish archives to complete a court-ready citizenship file.
