What we do: our process
3 easy steps to your Citizenship
PortaleItaly helps you with the whole Jure Sanguinis process: from the initial assessment, to collecting the documents needed, and finalizing in the actual submission. Our custom process ensures the most efficient, cost-effective method. On average, you could have your citizenship between 18 and 24 months.
1. Eligibility Assessment
Our experts will analyze your ancestry and verify your qualifying ancestor to ensure you are eligible for Italian citizenship. Our team searches and compares records from several different Italian and American or Canadian archives.
2. Document Collection
We take care of all the document collection. We gather all the original files, whether they are in America, Canada or Italy, do the long form court-certified translations with Apostilles, and take care of all necessary documents.
3. Court Submission
Once complete, we send the documents to our in-house legal team in Italy. We apply directly to the Tribunale di Roma, or any other necessary jurisdiction on your behalf — bypassing many consular limitations.
The Court Submission is where our process truly stands apart
Instead of trying to submit your application through an Italian Consulate, we file your case directly with the Italian Court. This approach allows us to bypass many consular limitations, significantly reduce waiting times, and pursue a more reliable and effective outcome for your citizenship case.

— An update on the new Citizenship by Descent law
Find out how the "Tajani Decree" may affect your eligibility
In March 2025, the Italian Government passed Decree-Law No. 36/2025, now converted into national law. It redefines who qualifies for Italian citizenship through ancestry (Jure Sanguinis).
Under the newly imposed limits: citizenship now passes only two generations from an Italian-born ancestor. Additional documentation and in-country requirements may now apply.
However, in certain cases, there are still viable legal routes to bypass the attempted effects of this new law, and to protect your right to Italian citizenship by descent.
Why this matters now
Many qualified individuals are discovering that a once-straightforward path to citizenship is being quietly closed off. These reforms have caused confusion, delayed petitions, and rejected applications. But under Italian law, you may still have time to qualify — if you act now.
Citizenship is more than paperwork. It’s belonging, legacy, and a legal right rooted in bloodline. Don’t let a legislative technicality erase that.
